Mallorca is a decently-sized island and has several interesting cities. The largest one is Palma de Mallorca, located in the southeast. While Mallorca is best known for its beaches and natural sights, the cities are also quite interesting and should be visited.

Best beaches in Mallorca

The beaches in the southeast, close to Palma, are the most popular ones among tourists. But the whole island is full of nice beaches, and the northern ones might be the most beautiful, so no matter where on Mallorca you are, there will always be a comfortable beach nearby. Here are the main ones:

  • Cala Formentor
  • Cala Sant Vicenc
  • Playa d’Alcudía
  • Cala Pi
  • S’Aramador
  • Cala Mondrago
  • Palma Nova

Flights to Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca has one of the busiest airports in Spain. You will find several routes to and from Mallorca, and they are usually quite fairly priced.

The main airlines that fly to Mallorca are:

  • Vueling
  • Iberia
  • Air Europa
  • RyanAir
  • British Airways
  • Lufthansa
  • Air Berlin
  • Norwegian

In other words, you can book tickets with major national airlines, or with low-cost modern companies. Vueling and RyanAir usually have the cheapest options, but Iberia has a large amount of routes.

We recommend you to use a flight search engine such as Skyscanner or Expedia to find your tickets with the best prices and conditions.

The airport of Mallorca is large, but it has huge traffic as over 25 million passengers stop by every year. It’s not particularly complicated to check-in, deliver bagage or find the right gate. Everything is visitor-friendly, although not everyone speaks English well.

The top 5 most common routes to and from Mallorca are: Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne and London-Gatwick.

Things to do in Mallorca

There are many fun things you can do in Mallorca.

First and foremost, you should enjoy the beaches. They are among the best in Europe, and the weather is usually great.

However, Mallorca is also a popular destination for climbers and hikers. The island has its fair share of mountains and hills, so the terrain is quite interesting.

If you are feeling adventurous, try to experience some of the underground caves. Cuevas del Drach, also known as the Dragon Caves, are amazing to visit.

For city-lovers, spend some time in the city of Palma. It’s a fairly large city where you will find many historical buildings and monuments.

All over Mallorca, there are nice restaurants, bars and clubs. If you are into partying, Ibiza is probably a better choice than Mallorca, but never underestimate the nightlife here, because it can certainly be very fun!

Mallorca – Barcelona

Since Mallorca is only a short distance away from Barcelona, many visitors wish to visit both of these places. For that, you have two options:

  • Taking the ferry between Mallorca and Barcelona
  • Flying

Plane tickets cost as little as 40 euros if you fly with RyanAir or Vueling. However, note that there might be limitations as to how much baggage you can bring with you.

If you wish to learn more about what Barcelona has to offer, then check our article on the best attractions, or our guide on where to stay in Barcelona.

Mallorca – Ibiza

Ibiza is another Mediterranean isle, not that far from Mallorca. You can take a ferry to get there, and it only takes two hours if you take the fast one (Balearica Cecilia Payne).

Just like Mallorca, Ibiza offers beautiful nature along with a vibrant party scene. There is a lot to do on Ibiza, even though it is smaller than Mallorca. A trip to both islands can certainly be done during the same vacation.

Mallorca is an absolutely wonderful island to visit. It is highly recommended for anyone interested in either beaches, caves, mountains and/or historic cities.

Since you can find affordable plane tickets with many airlines, there is no reason not to consider Mallorca. It is one of the highlights of Spain. We wish you a very nice trip if you decide to go – and if you have any questions regarding Mallorca, feel free to write them below.
